“Narcos” Season 4 will have new cast members spearheading the next installment as the Colombian cartel was effectively shot down by Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) and other operatives in the previous season. As such, the crime drama will move to Mexico in order to highlight the prevalent drug trade in the city to this very day, Express reported.
The plotline of “Narcos” Season 4 will follow the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel and their infamous leader, Felix Gallardo. The new installment will trace the origins of the cartel all the way back to 1980, when the group was first formed in order to smuggle marijuana and cocaine to the United States.
Indeed, this development has already been confirmed by showrunner Eric Newman. “Narcos” Season 4 is set in Mexico in order to lend credence to the show’s authenticity. However, this decision came at a price as a location scout was killed after he tried finding the perfect area to film certain scenes.
Carlos Muñoz Portal was found dead in his car in a violent region in central Mexico last year, which derailed the production of “Narcos” Season 4. Following Portal’s death, Netflix released a statement that they were saddened by the death of the scout, which had a hand in creating “Sicario” and “Spectre.”
Newman said that they increased security after the tragedy, taking lengthy precautions in order to protect the crew of “Narcos” Season 4. This precaution came in the form of security professionals which comprised Mexicans, Americans, and Israelis.
Newman also revealed that they received no threats prior to the incident, nor did any warning come after the death of Portal. Even so, Netflix is still enforcing all these precautions in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved in creating “Narcos” Season 4.
As for the release date, the streaming giant has announced that the series will return on Nov. 16.
