NEW YORK, April 10, 2018 -- At the end of the settlement date of March 29, 2018, short interest in 2,335 Nasdaq Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,182,505,080 shares compared with 7,230,277,603 shares in 2,331 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of March 15, 2018. The end-of-March short interest represents 3.80 days average daily Nasdaq Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.96 days for the prior reporting period.
Short interest in 884 securities on The Nasdaq Capital MarketSM totaled 981,869,764 shares at the end of the settlement date of March 29, 2018 compared with 941,231,508 shares in 886 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 2.40 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period’s figure of 2.84.
In summary, short interest in all 3,219 Nasdaq® securities totaled 8,164,374,844 shares at the March 29, 2018 settlement date, compared with 3,217 issues and 8,171,509,111 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 3.55 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 3.79 days for the previous reporting period.
