PORT NORRIS, N.J., May 04, 2017 -- Thanks to the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, the 1928 Delaware Bay Oyster Schooner AJ MEERWALD will dock in Trenton to celebrate New Jersey’s maritime heritage and highlight the mission of the NJ Delaware Bayshore Council which advocates for the health and sustainability of the Delaware Bay region. A reception at the dock (at 100 Riverview Plaza) will be held on the ship with fresh Delaware Bay oysters and light refreshments on Monday May 8, from 4pm to 6pm.
Recently the legislature and the Governor recognized the Delaware Bayshore as a region of special significance in the Garden State. The Resolution establishes the NJ Delaware Bayshore Council as key regional platform, and calls on the NJ Delaware Bay Council to report to the Governor and the Legislature detailing “various threats to the Delaware Bayshore's cultural, ecological, economic, historical and recreational resources, and to make policy recommendations, including any proposed legislation, on how the State could design programs or direct resources to help address these threats.”
Established last July, the Council joins municipal, county, state and federal representatives, and other stakeholder organizations of the region from the Cape May canal to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. It seeks to raise Bayshore issues and community needs and facilitate a healthy balance of conservation and economic vitality.
“We invite the public and public officials to join in the celebration of New Jersey’s amazing maritime heritage, incredible tourism assets and the wonder of the Delaware Bay,” says Meghan Wren, Vice Chair of the NJ Delaware Bay Council.
“This tall ship represents our Council, and our desire to see the Delaware Bay Council be recognized statewide as a voice for protection, preservation and sustainability,” says NJ Delaware Bayshore Council chairman Norris Clark.
