The 20th Anniversary Edition for “Rise of the Tomb Raider” is out and it packs quite a number of goodies for fans of the franchise to sink their teeth into. One is a new skin for Lara that is very much retro at this point, while the rest places players in their favorite grave robber’s childhood home. For the latter part, fans will be treated to two scenarios, one of which is fun while the other is just sad.
20 years ago, the world was introduced to gun-toting, acrobatic, and incredibly British Lara Croft. In celebration of this incredible milestone, Crystal Dynamics is giving players the “Blood Ties” and “Lara’s Nightmare” expansions, and the skin of 1996 Lara, PC Gamer reports.
The new appearance is quite reminiscent of the character’s old design, sharp edges and all. Ms. Croft is also back wearing skimpy clothing, just like back when she was a busty bombshell that blew everybody up. Just don’t expect her to look HD in the modern sense.
Coming to the other expansions, both take players to Lara’s childhood home, which any fan should know by now; Croft Manor. In “Blood Ties,” Lara’s uncle sends her an eviction notice, pointing to the lack of any written will from Lord Croft that she should inherit the estate. The mission is then to find anything that will prove Lara is the rightful heir and owner of the house she grew up in.
“Lara’s Nightmare” brings a different theme to the table, which gamers are becoming all too familiar with by now; zombies. The expansion is still set in Croft Manor, but instead of clever detective work, it’s all about mindless shooting at hordes of undead.
For the “PlayStation 4” version of the game, Polygon notes the one exclusive feature of the title on the console, which is the “PS4 VR” compatibility. Players can basically run through “Blood Ties” wearing the headset, which is apparently only available on Sony’s game box.
