VILNIUS, Lithuania, Feb. 07, 2018 -- RAWG.io, a service solving the ‘what to play next’ problem, launched today. RAWG.io aims to become the integral part of gamers’ lives, like IMDb is for movie lovers. It lets you track all games from various platforms in one unified profile, review them, create collections, and share all this with other gamers.
"Working in the gaming industry we noticed there was no service for gamers like IMDb or Goodreads, focused not on a single platform or device, but on users’ preferences. A year ago we got tired of waiting for someone to solve the problem and started developing RAWG. We wanted it to be the cross-platform database automatically connecting your profiles across various platforms where you could express your feelings about games," said Dasha Lyalin, the COO of RAWG. "We released the alpha version in August 2017, and invited 3,000 users to test it. The result was amazing – they added 650,000 games to their libraries, imported over 3,000,000 achievements, and posted 9,000 reviews. But the main thing was that most of them have stayed with us as an active community. It was the best proof of concept we could imagine."
In January RAWG.io raised a €1M seed round from Altair Capital, game company Wargaming, Game Insight chairman and IMI.VC founder, Igor Matsanyuk, Zeptolab CEO Misha Lyalin, and hitech entrepreneur Pavel Roitberg. This will allow RAWG.io to scale its service globally and complete a personalized game recommendation system in the first half of 2018.
"I believe RAWG.io can change the gaming industry as we know it," said Igor Matsanyuk. "For example, most of movie-goers know actors, producers, and directors, but when it comes to games, an average gamer can hardly name game designers, producers, or lead developers who created the games they love. RAWG.io personalizes the gaming industry, we have already collected more than 15,000 profiles of top creators and added this info to game pages. Because we know how people matter."
