Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party is training officials to nominate polling agents for the 2027 elections as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists Dec. 10 as the online submission cutoff.
BusinessDay and Blueprint reported that the PDP held a training session in Abuja on Nov. 2 for officials who will handle agent nominations. Blueprint reported that eight state secretaries, 21 organising secretaries and 25 information and communications technology (ICT) officers attended.
PDP National Organising Secretary Umar Bature urged officials to vet nominees, warning that people working for rival parties could leave PDP candidates without representation at some polling units, the outlets reported. He cited Dec. 10 as the party’s deadline for nominations, according to the reports.
Blueprint also reported that PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed described the Abuja session as an initial stage. The outlet said Mohammed expected training to continue across party structures, from states and local government areas to wards and polling units.
INEC’s portal lists Dec. 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. West Africa Time (WAT) (10:59 p.m. UTC; 5:59 p.m. ET) as the cutoff for submissions. It asks parties to provide each nominee’s name and phone number, gender, assigned polling unit, passport photograph and official identification. The commission says nominations must be submitted and certified through the portal to be recognized. Its system checks for repeated nominations across polling units and political parties.
The commission’s calendar sets the presidential and National Assembly elections for Jan. 16, 2027, followed by the Governorship / State House of Assembly Election on Feb. 6. The portal’s listed deadline for polling-agent submissions is Dec. 10.
