It has been more than three years since the second movie installment of the “Now You See Me” series premiered, and fans have yet to hear about the third title. This silence from the producers and cast members have led others to speculate that “Now You See Me 3” might never happen.
The second movie saw a slight decline in box office sales compared to the first movie. However, it was still a huge box office success, especially compared to the sequel’s reported project. But there is always a chance that this change in numbers has caused the delay in producing “Now You See Me 3” among other factors.
‘Now You See Me 3’: Delayed or canceled?
Obviously, box office sales are the biggest determiner, whether a sequel is feasible. The first movie earned more than $351 million while the second same title movie saw over $334 million in worldwide box office sales. Though not confirmed, this decline in profit is a possible reason why the fate of “Now You See Me 3” is still questionable.
Next, to the movie budget and sales, production greatly relies on the schedule of the cast members. The heist thriller series has been popular for its band of magicians and illusionists who stage their performances at the expense of multibillionaires. Main cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Lizzy Caplan, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, and Dave Franco are likely to reprise their roles if "Now You See Me 3" ever enters production.
However, these are some of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. That means making their schedules meet to film "Now You See Me 3" is not an easy task. That leads to the speculations that such scheduling conflicts might lead to shelving the project. At this point, the best thing fans can hope for is that the movie is only delayed for a few more years.
‘Now You See Me 3’ cast: Movie adds another MCU star?
As if that cast is not powerhouse enough, there were reports that “Doctor Strange” and “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch is the newest star in “Now You See Me 3.” However, note that there is not much solid proof that would support this claim. Even his IMDb page does not mention “Now You See Me 3” as one of his future movie projects.
Even if Cumberbatch is confirmed to join "Now You See Me 3," his very hectic schedule might further complicate the movie production woes. Fans still waiting for an update on "Sherlock" season 5 can attest to that.
