There is more to anime than just the quality of the animation, itself. There are plenty of classic shows that live up to even today’s standards. A lot of this has to do with the other elements of the production coming together. Unfortunately, as “One Punch Man” Season 2 Episode 2 airs, it is clear that this season’s troubles are not going away.
As Comic Book recently posted, stills of “One Punch Man” Season 2 Episode 2 were released prior to the airing of the episode. Even then, fans had plenty to complain about, including Garou’s over-elongated face and missing nose. What the animators were trying to go for when designing him for the adaptation is still a mystery. However, whatever it may be, it isn’t working.
To be fair, there were some impressive moments in “One Punch Man” Season 2 Episode 2, especially in the fights between Genos and Speed of Sonic. However, there were even more issues that made the episode almost unwatchable. To start with, the transitions between scenes are jarring with practically no flow to them.
There was also the overuse of stills from the manga, which could almost be taken as a means of avoiding having to animate the reactions and the background. While the first episode of this season failed to convey any level of competence, many were hoping that “One Punch Man” Season 2 Episode 2 would. Unfortunately, it simply did not do the anime justice.
At this point, it’s clear with “One Punch Man” Season 2 Episode 2 that the anime has turned out worse than a lot of fans thought. When the actual animation for the second season was released, many complained about the quality. Now, it seems that everything else about the show is bad. Even the pacing seems completely out of whack, which does not do the source material justice.
