The first season of “One Punch Man” was an epic debut for Saitama, and while there were some slight differences compared to the source material, it more or less followed the outline of the manga. This is why “One Punch Man” Season 2 is likely to be more human than the first. It all has to do with the season’s antagonist named Garou, who is the human that is classified as a monster. [Major Spoilers Ahead].
As Otaku Art notes, the success of the anime’s first season practically guaranteed that there would be a “One Punch Man” Season 2 before it even ended. It’s unfortunate that fans have to wait four years to finally get the second season. But for such amazing episodes, many believe that it’s worth it.
The animators are also likely taking their time with “One Punch Man” Season 2 for reasons other than making epic fight scenes and Saitama’s glorious shiny bald head. The season’s villain Garou will be its most complicated antagonist yet.
In the announcement trailer for “One Punch Man” Season 2, the name of the next enemy was revealed. However, the impression this leaves is slightly misleading in that the second season will actually have multiple villains. Garou will simply be the most noteworthy due to the fact that he is human.
For some context, the first season of the show focused a lot on monstrous enemies, which drew from a variety of inspirations that included “Attack On Titan” and the “Dragon Ball” franchise. In “One Punch Man” Season 2, though, Garou will be presented as a formidable human foe for the hero association.
A former disciple of Bang, Garou is an extremely skilled martial artist that could even defeat S-Class heroes. He will even be called a Hero Hunter in “One Punch Man” Season 2 for beating down numerous members of the association.
On that note, unlike previous villains who only want world domination or to kill boredom, Garou’s motivations are entirely human. He was driven to his current state due to how he was treated and how society glorifies heroes to an extreme. “One Punch Man” Season 2 will likely put an emphasis on this point when it premieres on April 2019.
