“Outlander” season 5 is coming after Starz confirmed that two more seasons are being prepared. The fourth installment concluded in January and viewers want the next season fast as the story gets more interesting.
The confirmation of “Outlander” season 5 and 6 was mentioned last year on two occasions. First, Starz president and CEO, Chris Albrecht, said in May 2018, “Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World.”
Then in October of the same year, during the New York Comic-Con, showrunner Ronald Moore verified the approval of “Outlander” season 5 and 6 again. He told the audience, "That is a fact," when asked if there will be more seasons after the fourth.
And now, nearly a year after the confirmation, filming has begun. Sam Heughan previously said that they have a filming schedule already so they are set. Then in Feb. 22, Lauren Lyle who plays Marsali in “Outlander” season 5, shared a photo on her Instagram story and it shows the production crew filming in Glasgow, Scotland.
The cast members are expected to back all together, on the set, next week.
What to Expect
“Outlander” season 5 is expected to more of Brianna and Roger’s story. They were finally reunited at the end of season 4 but still, it appears that it will not be smooth sailing for them yet. They will face more dilemma and the possibility that Roger will want to return to his original time is still there too.
"I have a feeling there will be some difficulties, but obviously we don’t know any of that yet,” Skelton said when TV Line asked her about Brianna and Roger’s future together in “Outlander” season 5. "They haven’t really sat down and had any conversations yet.”
She added, “They left on a big fight, and they haven’t even talked that out, and now they’ve got a baby to think of, too. They could put everything that happened aside, or it could complicate things and make things harder."
On the other hand, Jamie and Claire will also be on focus again in the upcoming “Outlander” season 5. The story of these two lead characters appeared less in season 4 because the drama had to make way for the entrance of new ones (Roger, Brianna and Stephen Bonnet) but the producers assured fans that Claire and Jaime will be back.
“Outlander” season 5 may premiere in the first quarter of 2020 since the previous seasons aired a year since the filming started.
