When it comes to the matter of “Overlord” Season 4, fans are becoming quite antsy due to there being no relevant news coming out. However, viewers should not worry too much since the reason why there has not been much progress on that front is due to the lack of source materials. That is to say, the light novels need another volume released in order for the animators to actually start working on the fourth season.
For the most part, there is no reason for fans to panic about “Overlord” Season 4 getting canceled just yet. To start with, the previous season only came out late last year, TheCinemaholic recently reports. As such, there is still time for the studio to announced the anime’s arrival for early 2020 or so. Even this doesn’t happen, a lot of this development hinges on the light novels.
For some context, a lot of the story with regards to the events in “Overlord” Season 4 is already done. However, there needs to be one more volume to round everything up nicely. Otherwise, there would not be enough of a plot to keep the viewers entertained. This goes doubly true for this series, which values narrative quality over everything else.
In addition, it would make more sense for the next volume to be included in order to arrive at a satisfying conclusion. As it is, the current existing contents in the light novels would only make “Overlord” Season 4 intriguing up to a point. Not that there aren’t plenty of gold to be had already, in the first place.
More than that, the anime has already made some changes compared to the light novels in the past. This means that the animators will need the upcoming volume in order to contextually adapt the story in anime form. If work on “Overlord” Season 4 does start soon, it should be out around 2020 or so.
