“Overlord” Season 4 has yet to be officially announced, but fans are fairly confident that it will be returning. Unfortunately, the wait might be a bit longer than viewers might have hoped for. There have been reports of delays in production, which might lead to the next season being released in late 2020 or beyond. If this results in massive improvements to the animation, however, fans should have no problem being patient.
As GeekSnipper notes, “Overlord” Season 4 will be adapting volumes 10 to 12 of the light novels. Readers of those light novels will already likely know how much darker events will get in this series. This has led many to fear that the developments could become too gruesome for the anime. Even so, fan discussions such as those on Reddit threads paint a positive picture of season 4 coming soon.
One way for the animators to avoid getting penalized for some of the more horrific parts of the light novels is to adapt them in a way that still depicts the plot points without showing too much of the specifics. OtakuKart also notes how the animators adapt only parts of the light novels that help move the story forward. This should be enough to allow “Overlord” Season 4 to air without too much trouble.
The question now is when “Overlord” Season 4 will actually come out and there is no definitive answer to this. In fact, reports have indicated that production for the season has not even started yet despite the fact that season 3 has already ended.
It’s unlikely for “Overlord” Season 4 to have been canceled, especially with the show being as popular as it is. However, fans fear that restrictions could make the beloved show much tamer than it should be. This is already one of the complaints directed at past seasons, with certain details left out because they are too grisly.
