Fans want “Overlord” season 4 but there is no news about it yet. This anime is not renewed yet so there are various speculations about its return, or perhaps cancellation.
The first three installments of this Japanese animation were produced by Madhouse and if “Overlord” season 4 is returning, the same studio is expected to produce it. The story is based on the manga novel series and until season 3, nine volumes out of the available 13 have been covered already.
Now, is “Overlord” season 4 still coming? There is no definite answer to this question but it can be said that the anime is only delayed. The reason for this is the lack of available source materials, OtakuKart reported.
As mentioned before, nine out of 13 volumes have already been translated into animation so that means only four stories are on hand and this is not enough to create a full series.
This means to say that it is impossible to make “Overlord” season 4 with just four volumes of the original manga novels. In order to make the series, the writer of the manga must complete more volumes first.
It was said that if Madhouse will translate volumes 10, 11 and 12 into “Overlord” season 4, there will be no more left for the fifth season thus everyone should wait a bit. Based on the info, Kugane Maruyama, the writer of the books, is set to release volume 14 late this year or in early 2020. He can’t rush because he has other works as well.
Meanwhile, fans theorized that “Overlord” season 4 is not coming anymore. On a thread on Reddit, they discussed if the anime is canceled or new episodes are coming.
One commenter said that he thinks “Overlord” season 4 has been canceled because, at the end of season 3, the prompt said, “and the story continues.” Another fan said that he has the same opinion due to the third installment’s ending. To get the right answer, fans should wait for a bit more announcement from Madhouse because that is the only way to confirm if it will be renewed or not.
