Many fans have been expecting “Overlord” season 4 to be released sometime this year considering that the third season ended on October 2018. However, the latest update about the anime series seems to suggest there will be no new episodes to arrive in 2019.
“Overlord” is probably one of the most popular and still active isekai series. Isekai is a subgenre of Japanese light novels where the plot is centered on a human character being transported to a fantasy world through various ways such as a defunct fictional video game. Fans have many reasons to be eager for “Overlord” season 4 one of which is its plot.
‘Overlord’ season 4 update: Next installment confirmed?
The makers of the series, Kugane Murayama and so-bin, have yet to update fans about the future of the anime series. The same goes for Madhouse, the studio that has been in charge of turning the light novels to anime. However, it was reported that some people affiliated with producing the animated show have confirmed that there are already plans for “Overlord” season 4. Meanwhile, ComicBook also reported getting confirmation that the said information was accurate and was backed by so-bin and Murayama.
‘Overlord’ season 4 possible release date: Premiere slated in 2020?
Based on the update mentioned, it appears that “Overlord” season 4 is just a plan for now. The producers and the studio might still be in the early phase of producing new episodes. In this case, it might be better for fans to stop hoping for the fourth installment to premiere in 2019.
It is also important to consider the availability of light novel source materials for “Overlord” season 4. In a previous, it was mentioned that forcing to have the fourth season released in 2019 would have meant that the anime is close to surpassing the light novel series.
It then makes sense for Murayama and so-bin to opt to slightly delay the making and release of "Overlord" season 4 instead of having both series too close to one another. The light novel series has been on hiatus for a year now temporarily stopping at volume 13. The anime series covered the stories until volume 9.
