Pakistan’s military said two operations in Balochistan on Nov. 1 killed 17 militants and one soldier, with clashes in two districts underscoring continued security activity in the province.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said the operations took place in Sanni, Kachhi district, and Kharan district. ISPR placed 10 of the reported militant deaths in Sanni, where troops interrupted what it described as an effort to block a road.

In Kharan, ISPR said a raid on a hideout led to a firefight that killed seven militants. It identified the soldier killed there as Sepoy Hikmat Ullah, 25, from Karak district.

ISPR said weapons and ammunition were recovered at both locations. It also said sanitization operations were underway to eliminate any remaining militants.

The Associated Press has reported on a protracted separatist insurgency in Balochistan, including attacks against security personnel and civilians working on development projects across the province.
