Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday that Moscow had received no ideas from Europeans about their role in future Ukraine security talks, while arguing that Europe would eventually need to take part.
Asked about Europe’s place in a possible settlement, Peskov said Russia was not aware of any European suggestions. He said talks between Russia and Ukraine on mutual security guarantees would also require a later discussion of Europe’s security arrangements. He added that Europe had not settled on who would speak for it.
Representatives of the United States and Ukraine joined NATO and European partners in Brussels to discuss guarantees for Ukraine and a broader European security framework, Reuters reported. The news agency also reported that U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday a “big agreement” might involve all of Europe.
Peskov has said Russia, Ukraine and the United States plan to meet in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November, without naming a specific day. He said broader discussions of Europe’s security order could involve additional participants. EconoTimes previously reported on the planned Abu Dhabi talks.
