PlayStation 5: Sony announces limited production of its newest gaming console; COVID-19 affected the company’s plans for PS5’s release

PlayStation

PlayStation 5 is one of the most-awaited gaming consoles as fans want to get their hands on this new gadget that is sure to give them better gaming experience. Then again, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that the whole world is battling right now, it seems that not everyone will be able to take home this gadget.

Less production of PS5

This is because Sony made an announcement that stated it would only produce a limited number of PlayStation 5. Besides, the company may lose money if it will proceed with its normal production since most of the economies worldwide are still closed.

Bloomberg further reported that the tech giant decided to limit its initial production because there could be less demand from the consumers due to the possible high retail price since the console is loaded with high-end specs. Plus, the pandemic made the situation worst that the company even had to alter its promotional plans for the gaming console.

It was revealed that with the help of their partners, Sony would only assemble from five to six million units, and it will be available by March 2021. Normally, they would have released more than seven million units, but then, it was noted that the number may still change depending on what the coronavirus situation will be in the next few weeks.

New controller

In any case, PlayStation 5 is coming out with a new controller called the “DualSense.” Unlike the usual black controllers, this one comes in a two-tone color.

“We’ve reached an exciting milestone with PlayStation 5 as we’re starting to ship our new controller in its final design to developers who are implementing its unique features into their games,” PlayStation’s Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino announced early this month. “But first, we wanted everyone in the PlayStation community to get a first look at the “DualSense” wireless controller and hear our vision for how the new controller will captivate more of your senses as you interact with the virtual worlds in PS5 games.”

Price and release date

As mentioned earlier, PlayStation 5 will be available by March 2021. Sony has not yet released the console’s retail price, but it is likely to be around $500.
