Reuters reported Tuesday that Poland and Britain signed a three-year defense plan, while Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said Warsaw would work to bring Britain closer to the European Union.
Signed Tuesday, the plan sets a three-year framework for military exercises and capability development.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said Poland would seek to ensure Britain could benefit from SAFE, the EU’s defense financing program. Kosiniak-Kamysz made the remarks at a joint news conference with British Defense Minister Wes Streeting.
Both ministers endorsed stronger European defense capacity. Kosiniak-Kamysz said that goal should not come at the expense of ties with Washington. He said Poland and Britain support strengthening the transatlantic alliance with the United States. “There is no alternative to transatlantic cooperation,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
