‘Poldark’ season 3 is set to feature the return of Gabriella Wilde’s Caroline Penvenen. Wilde teased Caroline’s daring costume during filming. Meanwhile, co-star Eleanor Tomlinson also hinted at more challenges for Ross and Demelza in the upcoming season.
According to the Daily Mail, Wilde posted a photograph of herself on social media dressed in a cleavage revealing costume for her character Caroline Penvenen. The 27-year-old actress and model plays a feisty aristocratic heiress in the hit BBC period drama, which is currently filming in Cornwall.
Caroline was first introduced in season 2’s episode 1 as Ray Penvenen’s niece. As an orphan, the strong-willed and intelligent heiress was taken in and raised by her wealthy. Caroline also served as a love interest for Dr. Dwight Enys for much of season 2, to which she eventually agreed to be his fiancée despite their wholly contrasting social backgrounds.
Meanwhile, co-star Eleanor Tomlinson opened up about the show’s rivalry with ITV’s own period drama ‘Victoria’ starring Jenna Coleman in the lead role. During an interview with Radio Times, Tomlinson addressed the decision to air ‘Poldark’ against ‘Victoria’ last autumn saying that it was a “real shame.”
She said, “I think it’s a real shame that they came out at the same time. It doesn’t make any sense to me! I think it did split the audience. At the end we were equal and that’s really good. I think Poldark pulled through.”
When asked about a possible winter feel for the upcoming season considering production going on through winter, Tomlinson replied, “I think it has some darker tones, certainly. So yes, yeah, we were filming across the winter, which worked nicely.”
The 24-year old English actress, who plays Ross Poldark’s (Aidan Turner) tireless wife Demelza, was also asked to address the controversial rape scene between Ross and his former love Elizabeth (Heida Reed). She responded, “It’s a difficult one really. I think it was interesting how the public responded to it and it was nice that the show was talked about and perhaps the viewing figures went up but I’m not gonna make any more comment about that scene.”
Tomlinson also hinted at more challenges for Ross and Demelza in addition to more love and romance for the upcoming season.
‘Poldark’ season 3 is expected to return to BBC One sometime in 2017. It was commissioned by BBC last July 2016.
