Most details about “Poldark” season 5 are still under wraps, but fans can take a hint of the upcoming stories based on the same title novel series by Winston Graham. The final series installment can then be expected to feature a significant time jump with grown-up Clowance and Jeremy.
BBC already confirmed that “Poldark” season 5 is opening after a major time skip. The official synopsis indicated that the final season will begin in “a new century.” While time jumps usually mean new beginnings for the characters, the teaser added, “The past casts a long shadow over Cornwall.”
Meanwhile, “Poldark” season 5 showrunner Debbie Horsfield previously told Radio Times that the final season will draw materials from Graham’s book “The Stranger from the Sea” that “made many references to developments that happened in the ‘gap’ years.”
The series creator also confirmed that “Poldark” season 5 will feature “historical events” set in London and Cornwall. “Series five will draw on all of these to follow the lives of the Poldarks, George Warleggan, the Enyses, and the Carnes in this intervening period,” Horsfield added.
People attached to the making of “Poldark” season 5 rarely mentioned what will happen next with Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) and Demelza Poldark’s (Eleanor Tomlinson) children, Jeremy and Clowance. However, the synopsis for “The Stranger from the Sea” is centered on a man named Stephen Carrington whom Jeremy rescued from the sea in Cornwall. The book summary hints at Stephen’s arrival causing “Poldark household changes” specifically for the Poldark siblings.
Stephen becomes romantically involved with Clowance in the following book “The Miller’s Dance” that is also likely going to be covered in “Poldark” season 5. As mentioned, the addition of grown-up Clowance and Jeremy, as well as Stephen, has probably not been confirmed. However, BBC previously announced a number of new cast members whose roles are still kept secret namely Lily Dodsworth Evans, Kerri McLean, Sofia Oxenham, Vincent Regan, Peter Sullivan, and Freddie Wise.
The filming for “Poldark” season 5 officially wrapped up in early February, but the official release date is still unknown. The final season will most likely premiere in the second half of 2019.
