President Donald Trump said Americans would see lower gasoline prices but gave no timetable after being asked whether U.S. fuel could return to $2 a gallon.

Trump said the wartime increase in oil prices fell short of his expectations, but gave no benchmark or amount.

In earlier comments, Trump cited refinery problems when explaining high U.S. gasoline prices and did not blame the Strait of Hormuz.

Reuters reported that rising oil prices were adding to Republican political pressure before Tuesday, Nov. 3, when voters will choose control of Congress. The issue also featured in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of Trump’s Cuba pledge.
