The making of “Prison Break” season 6 has been confirmed for a while now. However, the amount of rumors surrounding the series comeback installment is close to details that have since been confirmed. For one, there were rumblings suggesting that Netflix is negotiating to gain exclusive rights to distribute the upcoming episodes.
It was main cast member Dominic Purcell, who plays Lincoln Burrows, who first announced in late 2017 that “Prison Break” season 6 is happening. Fox then welcomed 2018 by confirming Purcell’s news. Since then, there have been updates released about the upcoming installment here and there, but never a specific production date or a release date window.
However, that did not stop rumors from spreading and one of those insisted that Netflix is offering to become the new home for “Prison Break” season 6. However, reviewing facts from the cast and crew, it does not seem like Fox would let go of its primary distribution rights of the show.
It can also be recalled that Purcell confirmed “Prison Break” season 6 production was somewhat affected and delayed by the Fox-Disney merger. “Because of the #fox merger with #Disney it’s been a slow process for #prisonbreak 6 to get going. The forces that give the green light are totally invested. Prison break 6 will happen once the intricacies of the merger are done,” he wrote. Disney entered the bidding war for Fox in 2018. But the $71.3 billion-worth deal was only completed last March 20.
What Purcell’s social media update shows is that Fox is still very much in control of “Prison Break 6’s” production and, most likely, its TV distribution as well. However, there is a big chance that Netflix would want to secure licensing deals to stream the upcoming installment. In several regions, all five seasons of “Prison Break” are currently available on the streaming platform.
