ATLANTA, Sept. 07, 2017 -- In just six years, PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program, which supports wounded veterans and their families by providing mortgage-free homes, has achieved a significant milestone as it will deliver the Program’s 50th home to Staff Sergeant Clark “Jey” Johnson and his family in Bluffton, South Carolina.

“During the years of this program’s existence, our company has delivered more than 100,000 homes to our customers. But these 50 homes delivered by the Built to Honor program are uniquely special and truly life altering to the wounded warriors and their families,” said Ryan Marshall, president and CEO of PulteGroup. “Not a single home would have been built without the passionate support and unwavering commitment of our PulteGroup employees, our trade partners and our suppliers.”
“A Built to Honor home was meant to be a foundation on which the veteran and their family could build the next stage of their lives, and it’s so amazing to see what these veterans have accomplished since moving into their home,” Marshall added. Several heroes have graduated from college and transitioned to full-time employment; some have participated and won medals in the Invictus Games; one has written a book; and one has started a community band for children.
Kicking off the 50th home celebration will be a Notes of Love event where the members of the Bluffton community will blanket the wall studs with notes of encouragement, blessings and inspirational comments. Additionally, well-wishers can leave a virtual note of love on the Built to Honor Facebook page at facebook.com/BuiltToHonor.
Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Johnson to Relocate Family to South Carolina
Johnson is a 16-year Army veteran who has been married 18 years to his wife, Shana. Currently living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the family has four children and three grandchildren. They are expected to make the cross country move to the Centex Seagrass Station community in November – just in time for the holiday season.
Johnson completed deployment tours in Bosnia, Kuwait, and Iraq. During his last deployment in Iraq in 2006, he suffered injuries by improvised explosive devices, on two separate missions. In 2012, he medically retired from the Army.
“It truly is our honor to be a part of building the home of their dreams where the Johnson family can focus on creating long-lasting memories in their new home,” says Charlie Tipton, the Company’s division president for Coastal Carolinas. “Jey has served our country with pride and we hope this home will provide him and his family with the security and peace of mind as they move to Bluffton area.”
This home will be the fifth home dedicated in South Carolina through the Built to Honor program, and is in partnership with Military Warriors Support Foundation, which supports our nation’s combat wounded heroes and Gold Star families as they transition out of the military and into civilian life. Since 2013, the Coastal Carolinas division has delivered homes to wounded veterans in the cities of Beaufort, Ladson, Myrtle Beach and Summerville.
