Qubic’s network remained halted Tuesday after a theft involving 1,404 wallets, while most stolen assets remained frozen — a condition that does not by itself return funds to their holders.
Qubic said insufficient randomness when some wallet seeds were generated exposed the affected wallets. The project said attackers used that weakness to access the assets, while its underlying protocol was unaffected.
About 2.94 trillion units of Qubic’s cryptocurrency moved over 104 minutes late Oct. 17, Qubic said. The transfers took place between 7:42 p.m. and 9:26 p.m. ET that day, as detailed in earlier coverage of the wallet breach.
Exchange restrictions followed the breach. Bitget said it suspended deposits and withdrawals for Qubic (QUBIC) on Oct. 18, citing wallet maintenance. MEXC said Qubic’s project team requested a similar suspension, as covered in an earlier account of the exchange restrictions. Bitget said it would issue a separate update on resumption, without giving a date.
