Indian stocks closed higher Monday, Nov. 2, as Reliance Industries surged after reporting stronger quarterly profit, lifting key benchmarks alongside gains in metal shares and declines in some large companies.

NSE Indices data put the Nifty 50 at 23,440.80, up 387.70 points, or 1.68%. Moneycontrol reported that the Sensex closed at 75,692.78, a gain of 1,233.25 points, or 1.66%. The figures reflect the close of the Nov. 2 session in India.

The Nifty 50 tracks 50 companies listed on the National Stock Exchange of India. The Sensex follows 30 companies listed on BSE.

Reliance shares finished at ₹1,300, up 11.60%, while Tata Steel rose 5.83% to ₹177.37. Infosys fell 2.03% to ₹1,161. Upstox reported that ICICI Bank declined 0.76% to ₹1,387.40.

Reliance's filing for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, put profit attributable to company owners at ₹25,548 crore, compared with ₹18,165 crore a year earlier. The company separately reported total profit after tax of ₹29,550 crore, a measure that includes results from associates and joint ventures.

The Oil to Chemicals segment recorded EBITDA of ₹25,203 crore, up 67.9% from ₹15,008 crore in the year-earlier quarter. Reliance said the segment benefited from constrained global energy supply, firmer fuel cracks and favorable feedstock economics. In its results transcript, Sh V Srikanth, identified by Reliance as its Group Performance speaker, said, “O2C led the charge with EBITDA up 68%.”

Moneycontrol reported that Reliance's gain was its largest one-day rise since April 2020. The Economic Times reported that the Nifty Oil & Gas index gained nearly 6% and the Nifty Metal index rose more than 3%. Its market-breadth tally showed 2,445 NSE stocks advancing, 1,164 declining and 104 unchanged, indicating more advancing than declining shares even as moves among major companies varied.
