The reviews are pouring in and “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered” is largely considered a visually fantastic treat, fit for the FPS that started it all. Activision is also piling on the good news by allowing all PS4 owners to give its VR demo called “Jackal Assault” a whirl.
“Modern Warfare” is largely considered the catalyst that ignited the current firestorm that is the FPS genre, Ars Technica reports. With impressive gameplay, an amazing story, and high definition graphics that were the most photo-realistic at the time, Capt. Price and company sparked the revolution in military shooting games.
With the remastered edition, the fourth installment of the FPS series is an even more gorgeous shooter than it was, and that’s just the start. In terms of level design, few other shooters have been able to keep up with “Modern Warfare,” giving players that adrenaline-pumping action that no other title has even come close to replicating.
The game also maintains its chilling and theatrical air, particularly during dramatic sequences and the “All Ghillied Up” mission. Seeing Chernobyl in such conditions, along with dilapidated buildings at extremely high definition is just as haunting as it was when the game first came out.
For some gamers, these days, the linear gameplay of “Modern Warfare” might seem a bit lackluster, but the sections are set up in such a way that it doesn’t even matter. Gamers become truly immersed in the action, where the player is the character trying to fight through hordes of terrorists.
Speaking of immersive, fans of the series will already be aware that there is a VR title called “Jackal Assault” available where players are placed in the cockpit of a combat vehicle in space. It’s the same fighter jet that can be found in “Infinite Warfare,” but players don’t need to get the Call of Duty game to try the VR demo. Activision said as much in a blog post.
