Business Insider reported that an August email projected $5 billion in August deliveries of Nvidia GB300 racks to Amazon Web Services, even as power limits reportedly left some sites unable to run incoming hardware.

The $5 billion amount was a forecast in the email, which Business Insider said it reviewed, not a completed delivery total. The message also projected about $3 billion in rack deliveries per month beginning in September.

People familiar with the effort told Business Insider that warehouses held completed racks while some facilities waited for sufficient electricity. The outlet said the affected AWS sites had room for equipment, but their available power was not enough to operate it.

Business Insider reported that emails outlined a shift giving Amazon ownership of some racks before they arrived at data centers. The outlet said Amazon usually paid for racks only after they reached a data center. An Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider that holding completed equipment near deployment sites is routine and disputed the suggestion that Amazon lacked a forecasted route for moving racks into data centers.

The reported timing can commit cash to hardware before facilities are ready to use it, with power availability the immediate constraint, Business Insider's account indicates.

Amazon reported free cash flow of negative $7.6 billion for the 12 months through June 30, 2026, compared with positive $18.2 billion in the prior-year period. The company said higher purchases of property and equipment, largely reflecting AI investment, drove the reversal. In its second-quarter results, Amazon said AWS sales reached $42.2 billion, up 37% year over year, with $16.6 billion in operating income.

AWS and Nvidia jointly announced Aug. 26 that they plan to add 2 million more Nvidia GPUs to AWS infrastructure in 2027 and 2028. That announcement set out a multiyear expansion plan, while the separate email forecast covered near-term rack deliveries.
