The official remake of “Resident Evil 2” was released recently and fans have already found a great mod to apply to it. The said mod allows gamers to play in the first-person perspective, which is not offered by Capcom.
The mod was developed by praydog and is now available through GitHub. “Resident Evil 2” players wanting to try playing in the first-person mode are instructed to install AppVeyor first. After unpacking the files, the dinput8.dll must be placed into the main folder of the game (via Eurogamer).
After following these instructions, restart “Resident Evil 2” and the mod should start working. However, praydog reminds players that the mod will not work with a DirectX 12. So those who are desperate to play in the first-person mode might want to downgrade to DirectX 11 to try this.
A number of “Resident Evil 2” players have already tried the mod and mostly have positive reviews about the mod. Resetera user, named wafflebrain do note that the mod is “still janky” and “with some judder.”
Meanwhile, a four-minute gameplay video is also available through the YouTube channel Sticky giving players more insight on how the mod works. The video shows that the “Resident Evil 2” mod would revert back to the native third-person mode, especially when opening doors. But pausing the game will bring them back to first-person viewing.
Most fans in online discussions have been supportive of praydog’s mod while others simply do not prefer playing “Resident Evil 2” in first-person. But those who do are now hoping that Capcom will officially make this an option for the game.
The original “Resident Evil 2” was first released in January 1998 while the remake title just came out last Jan. 25 and is available on Windows PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Aside from improving the game’s graphics, Capcom also tweaked the game’s controls and camera angles. Without the first-person mod, players can enjoy the game with an over-the-shoulder third-person setup.
