Overnight flooding on Rhodes forced the municipality to close schools across four districts and block three road points in Archangelos, disrupting travel as forecasters warned of more severe weather.

Rhodes Municipality closed schools Monday, Nov. 2, in Archangelos, Afantou, Lindos and South Rhodes, citing safety concerns. It also closed the Irish crossing at Haraki, the Reni area in Stegna and the old Archangelos–Malona national road at Aithona, directing drivers to other routes.

The municipality advised residents to avoid unnecessary trips and roads covered by floodwater. It said municipal crews and other services were ready to respond as conditions developed.

ERT News reported that a first 112 alert went to Rhodes residents and visitors at 8:30 p.m. ET Sunday (01:30 UTC Monday). A second alert, at 3:52 a.m. ET Monday (08:52 UTC), urged people to travel only when necessary.

ERT News and Kathimerini reported that at least 60 vehicles were swept away or damaged, while homes and businesses flooded. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecast intermittent heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Dodecanese through Monday evening.
