Russia’s Defense Ministry alleged Wednesday that drones hit substations in Ukraine’s Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, as Ukraine reported emergency outages after attacks on energy sites a day earlier.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said Tuesday that energy sites in 10 regions came under attack, with extensive damage in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv. It linked emergency cuts in Kyiv city and six regions to damaged equipment and reduced voltage on the high-voltage grid.
DTEK said strikes halted operations at three of its thermal power plants. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed the cargo vessel carried military equipment intended for Ukraine’s armed forces. It also claimed a strike on a cargo vessel in the Black Sea near Odesa.
Reuters cited Ukrainian emergency officials and local authorities for reported strikes in Kyiv city and Poltava, Dnipro, Kirovohrad and Rivne. It said U.S.-brokered peace talks were expected to resume about a week later.
