Russian attacks on Ukraine killed at least six people on Sunday, including three civilians in a deadly strike on a grocery store in Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city. The latest violence also left dozens injured, including children, as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war continues to threaten civilian communities.
According to Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov, the Russian attack on the grocery store claimed three lives and injured 20 others. Among those wounded were two children, highlighting the growing humanitarian concerns surrounding continued strikes on populated areas.
Syniehubov confirmed the casualties in a statement published on Telegram, providing details of the destruction caused by the attack. The strike damaged buildings and vehicles, leaving emergency responders facing a challenging situation as they worked at the affected location.
Images circulating online showed rescue workers moving through heavily damaged structures and burned-out vehicles. The photographs illustrated the destruction following the Russian bombardment, with emergency crews responding to the aftermath of the deadly explosion.
Meanwhile, a separate Russian strike in western Ukraine killed three additional people, according to local officials. The two attacks brought Sunday's reported death toll to six, underscoring the continued dangers facing civilians across different regions of the country.
The latest attacks demonstrate how Russian military operations continue to affect both eastern and western Ukraine. Kharkiv, a major urban center, remains particularly vulnerable to strikes amid the prolonged conflict between Moscow and Kyiv.
Civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure have become persistent concerns throughout the war, placing additional pressure on emergency services and local authorities responsible for responding to attacks.
The reported injuries involving children have also renewed attention on the humanitarian consequences of the fighting, particularly in residential and commercial areas where civilians carry out everyday activities.
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, Sunday's deadly strikes highlight the ongoing security challenges confronting Ukrainian cities. Authorities remain focused on responding to the destruction and assisting those affected by the violence.
The latest casualties serve as another reminder of the human cost of the war, with civilian populations continuing to face significant risks from Russian attacks across Ukraine.
