The crew of a Russian Su-30 ejected before the fighter jet crashed during a training flight in Kaliningrad on Oct. 21, Russia’s Defense Ministry said, adding that the pilots’ lives were not in danger.

Rescuers evacuated the crew. The ministry said the aircraft carried no ammunition and fell in an unpopulated area. It did not disclose a cause for the crash or give a more precise location.

The Kaliningrad region lies on the Baltic Sea and borders Poland and Lithuania. The Russian region has no land border with the rest of the country.

Another Su-30 crashed during a training flight in the region on Aug. 12, 2023. The Western Military District said the crew died in that incident.
