SK hynix files libel charges over the rumor of defective products
SK hynix Inc denied a rumor that it is facing damages worth 2 trillion won from clients over defective DRAMs amounting to 240,000 wafers and has filed libel and misinformation charges with Icheon police.
The rumor has been circulating since Monday on social media such as Kakao Talk and the Blind app.
South Korea's No. 2 chipmaker confirmed that it was discussing defect issues in a few DRAM products with a limited number of customers but emphasized that the issues were overblown.
SK hynix noted that the defect is within the range of a typical quality issue check.
With the damage done to SK hynix’s reputation way more than the impact of the defects, it requested a police probe over the matter.
SK hynix produces around 1.8 million wafers a month, with about 80 percent dedicated to DRAM.
