For Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser, his anticipated first encounter with her daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), is definitely a highlight in “Outlander” season 4. The latest trailer also emphasizes the struggle Caitriona Balfe’s Claire Fraser will go through for knowing how history unfolds.
Claire and Jamie have a daughter named Brianna. But after getting separated in time, Jamie has not yet met Brianna. But the “Outlander” season 4 trailer released this week somewhat confirms Brianna’s ability to travel through time and land in the era of the foundation of America. Without giving away spoilers, Heughan explained how this experience will be like for Jamie.
“He’s never really had an opportunity to be a parent … So for him to meet his daughter it would be quite an experience,” Heughan told Radio Times. The actor is careful not to definitively confirm that Brianna can also travel through the stones. While this plot was already confirmed in the books, the TV series is yet to get to that part as “Outlander” season 4 is based on Diana Gabaldon’s “Drums of Autumn.”
Sam Heughan also reiterated that arriving in a new country will only bring peace to his and Caitriona Balfe’s characters for a short period. “It’s ‘Outlander,’ so it’s only comfortable for a short while and then things get really interesting again,” said the actor.
And by “interesting,” Heughan certainly meant that danger immediately surfaces for Jamie and Claire in America. This narrative is also presented in “Outlander” season 4’s latest trailer. Jamie and Claire hope to establish a good life that will hopefully later affect Brianna’s life in a good way until the background music turns intense and the smuggler Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers) enters the picture.
The new villain will certainly bring all the misfortune to Claire and Jamie’s life, and it will have something to do with Brianna. The video teaser ends with Heughan and Balfe’s onscreen daughter from a later century approaching the stones as if preparing to go back in time.
Balfe, on the other hand, also gave hints on how Claire and Jamie’s relationship develops in “Outlander” season 4. “It's a more mature relationship,” Balfe told Entertainment Tonight. “I think there's a deeper love there. … They’re just a really solid team this season, which I think is really nice for us to be able to play.”
Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe return to the small screen in less than a couple months. “Outlander” season 4 airs on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. ET on Starz.
