Samsung fans may have gotten another hint at the imminent launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has certified two models of unannounced smart wearable devices from the tech giant.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 launch seems imminent
FCC certification listings are one of the most common sources of information about upcoming tech products. While these documents do not reveal plenty of details about the design and technical specifications, they give fans an idea of the supported connections and variants of an upcoming device.
MySmartPrice reports that the FCC has certified a Samsung device with model numbers SM-R885U and SM-R885F. These are believed to be referring to the Galaxy Watch 4 model that will support various LTE Bands and Wi-Fi.
An update on the same report notes that another certification was provided for a device identified as SM-R880, which is reported the watch’s Wi-Fi-only variant. The listing also confirmed that Samsung has also applied for the certification of a wireless charger, which is likely compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4.
Meanwhile, 91Mobiles also reported on a separate FCC certification for devices with model numbers SM-R870 and SM-R875U/SM-R875F. These are believed to be the Galaxy Watch Active 4’s Wi-Fi only and LTE variants, respectively. The same report notes that the devices feature a battery with model number EB-BR890ABY rumored to support 5W charging.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 possible release date
Samsung has yet to confirm the Galaxy Watch 4 series, so there is no official release date yet. However, Max Weinbach recently hinted at an event slated on Aug. 3 where the smartwatches could be announced, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.
The said date likely refers to the announcement of the devices, but the Galaxy Watch 4 series is not expected to arrive in stores immediately. Per Front Page Tech, the watches would be available starting Aug. 11 while the foldable smartphones would not ship until Aug. 27.
However, there is also speculation that the Galaxy Watch 4 could be unveiled at an earlier date. Samsung is holding an event at the MWC Barcelona on June 28, where it is expected to present the new Tizen operating system merged with Google’s Wear OS.
