Samsung SDI will supply U.S. power developer Alpha Omega Power with one gigawatt-hour of energy storage equipment made in Indiana, adding to the Korean battery maker’s push to expand its North American business.

The Oct. 26 agreement follows an initial contract signed in late 2025 and brings the companies’ combined orders to 1.5 GWh, Samsung SDI said. The new deal was signed through the battery maker’s Michigan-based subsidiary. Cells and modules will be produced at the StarPlus Energy plant in Kokomo, Indiana, with deliveries scheduled by year-end 2026.

Alpha Omega Power plans to deploy the systems in projects serving the WECC and ERCOT power markets. Construction is expected to start in 2027. Samsung SDI said the planned projects are intended to help maintain grid reliability amid rising power demand.

The order covers Samsung Battery Box 1.7, an integrated energy storage system using high-nickel prismatic batteries made with nickel, cobalt and aluminum. Samsung SDI says the model has 17% higher energy density than the prior SBB 1.5 version in a 20-foot container of the same size. AI-based monitoring is designed to flag abnormalities and estimate battery life.

For fire response, Samsung SDI’s Enhanced Direct Injection technology sends extinguishing agents into battery modules. The company says SBB 1.7 complies with U.S. fire-safety standard NFPA 855 and holds UL 9540 certification.

Alpha Omega Power CEO Paul Choi said, “This second agreement strengthens our domestic supply chain supporting the next generation of energy infrastructure.”

Samsung SDI said it has secured several U.S. energy storage supply deals and is discussing possible agreements with local customers. The company said it is the only non-Chinese supplier of prismatic energy storage batteries in North America.
