The finalists from San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf are Concepcion Martinez (Beyond the Call of Duty) and Lauren Gong (Rising Star).
Concepcion Martinez (Beyond the Call of Duty): This Beyond the Call of Duty award is presented to a hotel employee who demonstrates a willingness to go “beyond the call of duty” in creating an unforgettable experience for a guest or colleague.
Connie has been with the hotel for over 15 years as a host at Red Fin Restaurant; she ensures that diners have a memorable visit, especially during the breakfast hours. She has a knack for remembering guests’ preferences and goes out of her way to make people feel special. On the final morning of a frequent guest’s recent visit, Connie presented her with a beautiful place setting, including her favorite flowers and a card signed by the entire restaurant team – moving the guest to tears.
Another example of Connie’s kindness was her dedication to a recent guest who was receiving treatment for cancer. During his treatment, the guest unfortunately suffered the loss of his family-owned pizza business due to a fire. Connie provided comfort to his family through the rebuilding process, and made such a positive impact on them that she and her loved ones were invited to the pizza business’ grand re-opening this past year. The guest is now happily cancer-free as well.
Lauren Gong (Rising Star): This award is given to an individual who has been in the industry for less than five years, but demonstrates the potential to become a pivotal figure in the hotel community.
Lauren started at San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf as a temporary administrative assistant in the Sales Department, and was quickly offered a permanent position as the Sales & Catering Coordinator, thanks to her talent and hard work.
By June of 2016, Lauren rose to the position of Executive Meetings Manager, where she is responsible for hotel room revenue, banquet sales goals and much more. Within her first year in her new role, Lauren helped grow year-over-year banquet revenue by $182,000. Lauren is integral to the growth of the hotel’s meeting attendee satisfaction scores, which increased by 9% in 2017.
Lauren also makes time to give back to the community, including serving ice-cream during Housekeeping Week and volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, JP Morgan Chase Fun Runs and Project Homeless Connect for the Hotel Council.
The Hotel Hero Awards will take place on April 18th, 2018 and San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf is honored to have these two incredible employees in the running.
