Sandy Spring Bank Employees to Plant 150 Trees in 2018

OLNEY, Md., April 27, 2018 -- In recognition of its 150^th anniversary this year, Sandy Spring Bank announced today its commitment to plant 150 trees throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The announcement also coincides with today’s observance of National Arbor Day, as well as communities’ week-long, international celebration of Earth Day 2018.

Employees across the organization are working together to organize and facilitate nearly a dozen volunteer events to accomplish this goal. All of the trees will be planted at area nonprofit organizations or community sites throughout the region. The bank is also working closely with local landscaping companies to source the trees, equipment and other necessary planting materials.

“These 150 trees are our gift to the community and our clients. After all, they’re the reason we’ve been here for 150 years and why we are seen as one of Greater Washington’s premier community banks,” said Daniel J. Schrider, President and CEO of Sandy Spring Bank. “What better way to honor our legacy of giving back and building strong communities than by rolling up our sleeves and working together to do something that will be enjoyed for generations to come. This is where we put down roots 150 years ago and where we are committed to be for the next 150 years. ”

This commitment is one of many ways Sandy Spring Bank will mark its 150^th anniversary throughout the year. Sandy Spring Bank employees have also been challenged to log 50 volunteer hours in 2018, with a goal of 50,000 volunteer hours. Earlier this month the bank also announced the official launch of the Sandy Spring Bank Foundation and a donation of $150,000 to three local nonprofit organizations, each receiving $50,000.

At the launch of the initiative, the local nonprofits, landscaping companies, clients and other community partners involved include: American University, Casey Trees, Fairfax ReLeaf, Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church, Our House, Ruppert Nurseries, Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting, Sandy Spring Museum, Smokey Glen Farm, Stadler Nurseries, and Van Metre Commercial.
