‘Scandal’ season 6’s episode 1, titled “Survival of the Fittest,” is set to follow Mellie and Olivia as they wait in anticipation for the results of the tight presidential race. The episode will also feature a series of flashbacks leading up to events of the present day.
The brief synopsis for “Survival of the Fittest” posted on TV Guide reads, “In the sixth-season opener, the election results come in for the presidential race between Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Francisco (Ricardo Chavira), and the outcome proves to be surprising.”
The upcoming midseason premiere of ABC’s award-winning political thriller television series is set to feature the exciting announcement of the presidential results between rivals Mellie Grant and Francisco Vargas. The tight race for the highest seat of the nation will finally come to a conclusion, with results that will be too close to call.
In the promo for episode 1, senator Grant tells Olivia (Kerry Washington) that she is giving up on running for president but Olivia remains adamant about pushing forward. The junior United States senator and former First Lady of the United States became the nominee for the Republican primary and was nominated with her vice presidential candidate Jake Ballard (Scott Foley).
Another sneak peak posted on ABC reveals that the final projections for the presidential race have come down to the state of California and that it will be “winner take all” with San Benito county as the prime focus of decision.
Olivia watches a broadcast of the polls in anxious anticipation and finally exclaims to the rest of the staff, “Last call! Anyone who still needs to vote should go right now. Just because we’ve already won Virginia, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cast your ballot. I want ‘I Voted’ stickers on everyone.”
According to Yahoo! News, the episode will also consist of a series of flashbacks leading to the polls’ culmination after the winner is announced.
‘Scandal’ season 6’s episode 1, titled “Survival of the Fittest,” is scheduled to air on ABC on January 26, 2017. The episode was directed by Tom Verica and written by Shonda Rhimes and will be followed by episode 2, titled “Hardball,” scheduled to air on February 2.
