CHICAGO, March 1, 2016 -- Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce that Darlene K. Alt has joined the firm as a partner in its Chicago office. Prior to joining Sedgwick, Alt was a partner in the insurance practice group of Locke Lord LLP. Alt's practice focuses on advising U.S. and international insurers on complex claims and coverage issues in both contentious and non-contentious matters. She regularly represents insurers in litigation throughout the country involving coverage disputes, claims-handling practices, extra-contractual liability and class actions across various lines of business.
"Darlene has outstanding experience with highly complex insurance coverage and litigation matters and understands how those issues impact our clients' businesses," Sedgwick Chair Michael Healy said. "She complements the services offered by our international insurance practice and is an exceptional lawyer with a multitude of professional achievements. We look forward to having her support our clients from Chicago to key jurisdictions around the globe."
Alt has extensive experience counseling insurers on a wide array of issues related to complex, high-value matters involving professional services, toxic torts, pharmaceutical products, medical devices, environmental risks, sexual abuse, and major disasters and catastrophic losses, including representing various U.S. and London insurers in 9/11 World Trade Center litigation. She also works closely with companies on product development and insurance policy wordings.
Alt is active in the legal community, including membership in the American Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. In addition, she has served as a speaker for numerous industry organizations and has been featured in a number of national publications, including Law360, Reactions, Insurance Journal and Risk & Insurance.
