CHICAGO, Dec. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce that partner Cinthia Granados Motley has been recognized as a 2015 Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer by The National Law Journal for her exceptional work on behalf of clients in this emerging area of law.
Motley is one of only 50 attorneys from across the nation to receive The National Law Journal award, which recognizes attorneys who have "helped make a difference in the fight against criminal cyber activity and toward adding much needed layers of data security in an increasingly digital world of commerce."
In a society that has an increased reliance on cyber data, the practice of cybersecurity and data privacy law has rapidly grown in both the United States and abroad. That said, Motley "has been advocating risk mitigation for years," The National Law Journal reported, which is experience derived initially from her previous role at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Motley has been an active member of the Seventh Circuit e-Discovery Pilot Program Committee since 2009. Motley has regularly handled class action cases with cybersecurity components.
"All of these areas merged and it was a nice marriage of all my backgrounds into data security and privacy," Motley told The National Law Journal. "I'm uniquely positioned because my experience has allowed me to focus on the preparedness aspect."
A Honduras native, Motley draws on her bilingual and multicultural knowledge to counsel clients in a variety of industries around the globe, particularly in Latin America and European markets, advising them on information governance and litigation readiness, as well as mitigating cyber risk exposures. She develops and tests incident response plans and privacy policies, reviews third-party management and vendor agreements and provides training to C-suite, board and executive-level employees while advocating for holistic cybersecurity approaches to help prevent and properly respond to the threat of data breaches.
Motley is regularly sought out for her knowledge and extensive experience in representing corporations in data security matters. She has been interviewed by television and news stations in both the United States and Latin America; regularly presents on cybersecurity nationally and internationally; is a board member of the Chicago Claim Association; is a steering committee member of DRI's Data Management & Security Committee; is a member of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals e-Discovery Pilot Program Committee and the Chicago Latino Network Association; and is an adjunct professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law.
