Coupang secured a 30-day pause in enforcement of a 201.16 billion won penalty over unauthorized collection of user activity, while a larger breach-related surcharge remains in force, The Korea Herald reported.

The Seoul Administrative Court’s Friday order starts the suspension on the day it was issued, the newspaper said. The court considered the risk of harm to Coupang from immediate enforcement and did not view the pause as a serious threat to the public interest, according to the report.

South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) imposed the penalty in June over unauthorized collection of online activity data linked to 11.17 million users, The Korea Herald reported.

On Thursday, the court denied Coupang’s request to suspend a separate 423.58 billion won penalty tied to a data breach last year involving more than 33.7 million users. The court also paused for 30 days a PIPC order requiring corrective measures to protect customer information, the newspaper reported. Coupang has filed an administrative lawsuit seeking to overturn the commission’s actions.
