Samsung SDS has announced that it has become the first domestic company in South Korea to expand its blockchain business to the public sector, following a new deal with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The company is working to establish an information strategy plan (ISP) on blockchain technology. The government is making efforts to implement the innovative technology into the administrative processes by 2022, including safety, welfare, transportation, and other municipal affairs.
According to the official release, the city of Seoul seeks to enhance civic convenience and administrative transparency using blockchain technology. Initially, the technology will be implemented in areas that require the use of personal information such as unemployment allowance to youth and the sale of used cars.
Under the terms of the contract, Samsung SDS will analyze the environment to introduce and spread the blockchain technology throughout the city's municipal government for five months. It will also work towards the development of future model designs and systematic implementation plans.
“Samsung SDS’ blockchain technology and consulting capabilities will contribute to Seoul’s leap as a top-rate global city,” said Hong Won-pyo, CEO of Samsung SDS (as quoted by The Korea Herald).
Earlier this year, Samsung SDS launched its enterprise blockchain security platform Nexledger. More recently, the company was selected by the Korean Federation of Banks, to build and deploy an 'Inter-Bank Blockchain System.'
