‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 5, titled "Dust and Shadows," is set to follow Clary as she attempts to resurrect her mother Jocelyn after she was killed off by a demon in the previous episode. However, this may not turn out well. Meanwhile, ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Will Tudor is set to join the cast as the iconic book character Sebastian Verlac.
The synopsis for "Dust and Shadows” posted on TV Muse states, “After the recent attack on the Institute, the Shadowhunters are left devastated and wounded. Trying to regroup, each of the Shadowhunters deals with the situation their own way. Meanwhile, Simon (Alberto Rosende) moves home but finds it is not so easy to pull off his new life with his family around.”
The previous episode, aptly titled "Day of Wrath," featured the shocking death of one of the show’s core characters.
According to a recap on Buddy TV, a demon with advanced cloaking abilities infiltrated the Institute killing Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) including two other Shadowhunters. The demon soon possessed Izzy (Emeraude Toubia), causing her to fight Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Alec (Matthew Daddario). However, in Clary’s rage and grief, she eventually managed to kill the demon.
McNamara revealed that Jocelyn’s death was an absolute necessity in Clary’s journey as a Shadowhunter. The upcoming episode will follow Clary as she attempts to resurrect her mother. In the promo, Clary is warned that Jocelyn may not return as her old self should the resurrection prove successful.
Meanwhile, Will Tudor of ‘Game of Thrones’ fame has recently been cast to play Sebastian Verlac. In the original novels authored by Cassandra Clare, Sebastian was the son of Valentine and Jocelyn and the older brother of Clary. He was a Shadowhunter born with demon blood due to the experiments done by his father.
Tudor is set to make his debut in season 2b’s premiere. During an interview with TV Line, showrunner Todd Slavkin expressed his enthusiasm over Tudor’s introduction into the show.
Slavkin revealed that they were blown away by Tudor’s self-taped audition saying, “When he taped, he had an American accent, which was really interesting… But when we saw his reel, saw him on Game of Thrones and Humans, then looked at our take on the character, we were like, ‘Oh, you’re from London. You’re from the London Institute. Use your British accent.’ And it works so well.”
It was reported that Sebastian, who came from the Paris Institute in the original books, would come from the London Institute instead. Slavkin explained, “We really put our own spin on him the character… As we’ve done with all the episodes you’ve seen, we’ve always had our own spin on everything, and Sebastian is no different.”
‘Shadowhunters’ season 2’s episode 5, titled "Dust and Shadows," is expected to air on Freeform on January 30, 2017. It will be followed by episode 6, titled "Iron Sisters," scheduled for February 6.
