Everyone knows who detective Sherlock is after British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle popularized the character through his detective story books. The earliest time that the character came out was in the 1880s.
Origins of Sherlock Holmes series
Since then, the detective stories about Sherlock Holmes were adapted to stage plays, TV, and movies. Up to now, there are still remakes of the story, and the latest is the BBC’s series, which is already on its fifth installment.
Fans have been waiting for “Sherlock “ season 5 as the excitement for this drama has not died down yet even after many decades. However, those who are waiting for the fifth installment have no clue as to when they can see the series again.
Reasons for the long wait
This is because, after the fourth season aired in 2017, with just three episodes, fans have never heard from BBC since it concluded. They are waiting for “Sherlock” season 5 renewal, but there is no news about it. Over the years, the reasons why it is not yet renewed are surfacing one by one.
Through interviews from the production team, including the showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis, the reasons for the non-renewal of “Sherlock” season 5 became clear. Firstly, BBC may be taking its time because there are still many things to iron out regarding the drama’s return like the schedules.
BBC previously revealed that both Moffat and Gattis are busy, so they can’t renew the show at once. The network is aware of their schedules since the two are doing another show, not for another TV or movie outfit, but for BBC as well.
The Guardian reported that Moffat and Gattis had teamed up again for “Dracula” and they were focused on this since 2017. Secondly, it is not just the showrunners but the main actors in “Sherlock” season 5 are working on other dramas and films too and this made it hard for the production team to schedule the filming.
Lastly, BBC stated that the decision to renew “Sherlock” season 5 is not really on their hands. They explained that it is really up to Gattis and Moffat if they will still work on it or not. Thus, they just have to wait for the two’s decision if they can still commit.
Meanwhile “Sherlock” season 5 may be coming in 2022 if it will be renewed this year or early next year.
