“Shrek 5” has long been reported to have gotten the go signal. The announcement was made after Dreamworks, and Comcast NBCUniversal have merged. However, after that confirmation, neither of the studio companies has released any update for years.
And because nothing has been said again about “Shrek 5,” many fans start to wonder if they have decided to pull out the movie, but nobody is saying that this is the case; thus, it can be assumed that the movie is still in the lineup for release. As of this time, fans should just consider the long wait as a delay.
What could be the reason for the slow progress or delay?
Early this year, Deadline reported that “Shrek 5” is already in the works. However, it is being delayed because it seems that Dreamworks is putting its attention first on the filming of the “Puss In Boots” movie sequel.
The delay is understandable if it is about the loveable but fierce cat. This is because almost all the people involved in the production of “Shrek 5” are the same ones who are behind the newest “Puss in Boots” film. The close relation between the two movies makes it hard for them to be filmed simultaneously; thus, one of them had to give way. Once the production is over, they will surely proceed to film the “Shrek” reboot.
A reboot or a sequel
Yes, “Shrek 5” is a reboot and not a sequel. There is a big difference between the two, so the fans should take note of it. The film reboot is different from the sequel because they will not be continuing the story of the previous “Shrek” movies. Rather, they will be reinventing the movie and give it a new theme and storylines.
In other words, it is like starting to film using an entirely clean slate. Dreamworks also hired a new writer so that the movie will have fresh ideas. The studio signed up Michael McCullers, and he was asked to create a unique plot and concept. But then again, despite the new story, fans will still get to see their favorite characters in “Shrek 5.”
Leaked release date?
Meanwhile, it was reported that “Shrek 5” release date had been leaked after fans found out that Universal Pictures has reserved some dates for DreamWorks movies. It was said that three slots had been reserved, and all of them are for the year 2022, and fans are sure that one of the dates is for the fifth “Shrek” film.
