Sika AG plans to widen its reach among suppliers to Japanese automakers through an agreement to buy Resonac Corporation’s adhesives business, adding products used in vehicle interiors.
Announced Wednesday, the deal would bring Sika manufacturing sites and sales operations in Japan, China and Taiwan. The business develops and sells adhesives mainly for automotive customers in Asia, with a particular focus on bonding vehicle interiors.
Sika expects the acquisition to broaden its automotive adhesives range and give it access to more suppliers of Japanese automakers. The company also sees an opportunity to serve those customers through its global operations.
Combining the businesses’ production networks would help Sika serve automotive and industrial customers across the Asia-Pacific region and achieve cost synergies, the company said. Those benefits remain expectations tied to a deal that has yet to close.
Sika said Resonac’s adhesives business would gain access to its adhesives expertise and global reach. The acquired business’s presence and customer base in Taiwan also offer Sika opportunities for growth in battery solutions.
Philippe Jost, Sika Regional Manager Asia/Pacific, said the companies’ technologies and customer relationships create opportunities to sell additional products to their existing customers.
Sika makes products for bonding, sealing and other uses in construction and industry. It reported sales of CHF 11.20 billion in 2025. Sika expects the deal to close around mid-2027.
