FRANCE 24 reported that almost 30 million people could vote in Wednesday’s local elections and described corruption, infrastructure failures and strained essential services as prominent concerns.

With 28% of votes counted, the ANC had 32%, about 14 percentage points below its 2021 municipal result.
The Electoral Commission says 136,790 candidates are competing for 10,526 council seats. An Ipsos survey found weaker ANC support than in the last municipal election.
The Interior Ministry mobilized 70,000 police and gendarmes, while preliminary weighted teacher strike participation was 15.81%, the Education Ministry said.
