An AITAT note summarizing the first 24 hours of Spain’s rail investigation estimated the Renfe AVE’s impact speed at 160 to 200 km/h, elDiario.es reported.

The outlet said the note was issued by the Autoridad Administrativa Independiente para la Investigación Técnica de Accidentes e Incidentes Ferroviarios, Marítimos y de Aviación Civil (AITAT), Spain’s independent authority for rail, maritime and civil aviation accident investigations. It described the Renfe AVE striking a stationary Iryo train. Investigators had not identified a cause and were keeping all possibilities open, the outlet reported.

An exact speed remained pending analysis of onboard recorder data, according to elDiario.es. Regional emergency services reported 69 deaths in an Oct. 29 update on the Oct. 28 collision; EconoTimes covered the updated death toll. Renfe said the crash occurred between Los Yébenes and Urda in Toledo province.

AITAT has, in principle, one year to publish its final report, elDiario.es reported.
