Spain's industrial production stays flat as capital goods rise, consumer durables fall

Spain’s April industrial production remained flat as production of capital goods rose amid decline in consumer durables after increasing robustly in March, data released Tuesday showed.

Industrial production remained unchanged from the previous month on a seasonal and calendar-adjusted basis. Output growth for March was revised to 1.3 percent from 1.2 percent, recording the biggest increase since April last year.

Capital goods production grew 1.7 percent, non-durable goods output rose 0.5 percent and energy output registered 0.4 percent increase. Consumer durables production declined 1.7 percent and intermediate goods output fell 1 percent. Meanwhile, industrial production rose 2.7 percent in April following 2.9 percent gain in March, compared to the same month last year.

Meanwhile, in Spain, where people are heading to the polls on June 26 for repeat elections, output rose a seasonally adjusted 2.7 percent in April compared with the previous year, beating a Bloomberg News survey calling for an increase of 2.4 percent, Bloomberg reported.
